Steven Zwartjes decided to send us a walkthrough for Star Fox 64. For the moment there's only the first part of Corneria, but he'll send soon the remaing part. Thanks, however!!! ============================================================= That's important for all the levels!!! You must know the HIT+1 TRICK. You'll see what I mean when you read the walkthrough. For all those people who don't know the route to take to get most points for total hits, here it is: Corneria->Meteo->Katina->SectorX->Macbeth->Area6->Venom ===========================Corneria========================== WALKTHROUGH FOR NORMAL MODE From the start aim above the first enemy, then bring it down quickly and shoot a charged unlocked shot (=C.U.S) just in front of him, so the shot will land in the water and then hits the enemy: you'll get HIT+1. Do the same with the next 2 enemies, and you'll get HIT+2. Then move to the right. Two baddies'll come. Take them out via the water to get HIT+1 for each enemy. Hit the brakes. 5 enemies approaching. Use a C.U.S in the middle of them to get a HIT+5. Catch laser. Save Slippy by shooting enemy via water: HIT+1. Enemies approaching you from behind. Take the first 2 out with C.U.S via ground and get a HIT+1 for each. Get a lock on the third and wait 'til the fifth appears, then shoot. You'll get HIT+2. Immediately use C.U.S in the middle for next four guys: HIT+4. Head right. Shoot down the enemy coming at you and the one who is heading left. Use C.U.S just above the enemy who's at the wall on the left: HIT+1. Quickly lock on the enemy who is coming from above and flies to mid- section. Use C.U.S on the 2 enemies on the ground, but wait for another enemy coming from the right then shoot. You'll get HIT+3. Use C.U.S for guy on the right: HIT+1. Head left and go under the arch. Baddies will appear. Lock on 2 enemies on the left and shoot: HIT+1. Make a loop and go right. Lock on grouped enemies and shoot: HIT+2. Hit the brakes. Shoot enemy on far right via the ground: HIT+1. Fly between the 2 pillars on the right and 3 baddies'll appear. Lock on and shoot: HIT+2. Immediately hit the brakes. Use C.U.S for robot shooting at the pillar: HIT+1 and HIT+5. Then keep using C.U.S on pillar and keep hitting the brakes. You'll get HIT+1 every time you shoot to the pillar. Lock on the 2 enemies on railway and shoot: HIT+2. Go to the left quickly to kill the incoming enemy. Hit the brakes to make baddies explode before they disappear from the screen (otherwise you won't get points). Use C.U.S for the 3 guys on the left: HIT+2, or HIT+3 if you manage to shot via the wall. Then hit brakes to let enemies explode. Lock on enemy at the back of the railway and shoot: HIT+3. Fly between the 2 pillars underneath railway: 5 baddies appear. Immediatley use C.U.S and shoot at the pillar where the robot is behind. If done correctly you'll kill the robot and all 5 baddies and you'll get 2 HIT+5's. Keep using C.U.S (and brake) at pillar: HIT+1 every time. Baddies appear right and left of pillar. Just keep using C.U.S at pillar. You'll kill them automatically: HIT+2. Fly low and use C.U.S and shoot right below the next enemy in mid section (just in front of the arch): HIT+1. Head left and shoot robot via ground or pillar: HIT+5 and HIT+1. Go up to fly above the first arch. Charge your laser then bring it down fast. Shoot to the left of the 3 enemies: HIT+3. Hit brakes. Take out robot on right via pillar: HIT+5 and HIT+1. You've reached the checkpoint now. From the checkpoint wait until Falco flies from left to right, then hit the brakes and use C.U.S for three guys on left for an HIT+3. Shoot to the pillar on the right to kill that guy there and get HIT+1. Fly under the arch and you'll let 4 enemies appear, lock on one of them and shoot for an HIT+3. Immediately do a loop and shoot a C.U.S under the enemy in the middle to get HIT+1. Do the same with the enemy on the left for another HIT+1. Fly through the gap between the 2 pillars. 4 enemies will appear again. Lock on and shoot for HIT+3. Hit the brakes and when your laser is charged again use C.U.S to the ground to kill the guy on the right for HIT+1. Then shoot him down again to confirm the second point. Charge your laser again and now shoot just to the left of the 3 enemies on the ground for HIT+3. Immediately shoot under the 3 enemies on the right for another HIT+3. Shoot them down again to confirm the other 3 points. Hit the boost, lock on the enemies chasing Falco, shoot and get a HIT+2. Check your score: you should have about 185 points here. Behind the hill there are 2 baddies on the railway and 2 under it. Shoot to the railway or to the ground for HIT+4. As you see the robots start using C.U.S just in front of them to the ground to get many HIT+1. It's possible to get 20 points in total for those 2 robots. Check your score: you should have about 219 points here. Now use C.U.S via water for HIT+1 and HIT+3 for the first water robot who is going from right to left. Fly under the first arch and do a loop. A bomb appears. Get it by going through that arch again. Destroy the other 3 robots by using C.U.S against water or arch. Make sure you fly through all the arches. Now 2 enemies appear. Use C.U.S via ground for both: HIT+1. Don't go through the waterfall yet. Hit brakes and try to get a lock on the enemies in the back (on the left of waterfall, you can hardly see them). When you have a lock on, shoot and immediately throw a bomb too. If you time it right it's possible to get 4 to 6 points here. Fly through the waterfall, lock on the enemy on the right. Wait for left enemy to come then shoot for HIT+1 (sometimes HIT+2). Throw a bomb to destroy all enemy birds. Then constantly hit the brakes and try to shoot all of those moles who pop out of the ground. Use always C.U.S just in front of them for HIT+1's and HIT+2's. If you do that correctly you can get about 8 points in total. Three enemies coming from the right. Lock on the left one and wait for the two enemies on the left to come. Time it right and shoot, to get a HIT+5. Then take out that easy boss. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Hopefully with a good score. My Corneria records so far: Checkpoint (normal): 146 After completing the level (normal): 289 Checkpoint (expert): 166 After completing the level (expert): 301 Steven Zwartjes ============================================================= ============================================================= Greetings everyone! This is Steven Brown, the current champion of Star Fox 64, bringing to you a walkthrough of one of the most confusing planets in the entire game - Aquas! Most new players, from what I've seen, have serious trouble with Aquas, and can't get into the 300s and 400s there. Therefore, I have prepared a walkthrough to explain better the techniques used for Aquas. I believe that, for Aquas in particular, people have skimmed over tiny little unnoticeable details in the strategies used on videos of the level, and because the level requires so much accuracy, you need to know every last detail of what exactly the videos of 400+ on this level are actually doing to get such impossibly high scores. So, without further ado, onto the walkthrough! I only have the first half of the level (up to the checkpoint) completed right now, but I will finish it very soon. Besides, I think the first half is where most people have trouble anyway. ============================================================= NOTE: The Japanese version of the game has slight differences in the amount and speed of enemies compared to every other country's release. Therefore, details that pertain only to the Japanese version will be noted as such. ============================================================= WALKTHROUGH FOR EXPERT MODE From the start of the level, move slightly upwards with a barrel roll to align yourself with the 2 enemies that will come from the right. As soon as the enemies are one movement to the left away from being right in front of your cursor, shoot a torpedo. If your position and timing is right, you will get a HIT+2. Now move down to the bottom left corner of the screen and position yourself in front of the blue rock on the ground. Brake, then shoot the blue rock repeatedly to get 2 HIT+1s from the approaching starfish. Next, move down to the ground in front of the big rock coming out of the ground on the right side. Before you slam into the rock, hold the brakes and keep pressing B to get 2 HIT+1s from the starfish. Immediately afterwards, move down to the ground as early as possible without hitting the rock again and shoot the ground for 2 HIT+1s from the 3rd starfish. Shoot another torpedo at the ground next to the clam for a HIT+1. If everything has been done correctly, you should have 15 hits by this point. Ignore the next clam, and instead concentrate on the seaweed coming out of the ground right next to it. Position yourself RIGHT in front of and slightly above the root of the seaweed, and start pressing B repeatedly while holding the brakes to rack up as many as 18 HIT+1s (on average around 15 HIT+1s). Next, go through the arch, and move to the right to chase the 2 enemies and shoot them for a HIT+1 (or a HIT+2 if you're lucky enough to hit the rock on the far right as soon as they pass by, although that's very difficult). Shoot a torpedo at the ground next to the clam for another HIT+1. You should have around 35 hits by this point. Hit the brakes, and let the next 2 enemies go behind the giant plant. Lock on and shoot a torpedo to get a HIT+2. Get the HIT+1 from the next clam. If you've gone through all the arches so far, the clam will have a laser upgrade (extremely valuable later on). As soon as you collect said laser upgrade, hold down the brakes and shoot diagonally upwards to the right to hit the giant squid from afar to get a HIT+1. As soon as the torpedo hits, fire another one slightly to the left of the giant squid (while still holding the brakes) for another HIT+1. Now, position yourself right in front of the squid. As soon as the torpedo hits the squid, fire another one at it while being locked on. Now, this part is tricky. After you fire the torpedo, DO NOT MOVE. As soon as the tiny little fish are DIRECTLY in front of you, hold the brakes and press B repeatedly. If you time it exactly right, you will get 4 HIT+1s from the squid. If the squid is still alive, bounce off the rock below while shooting a torpedo for another HIT+1. You should have 45-50 hits by this point. Move in front of the seaweed in front of you and press B repeatedly (without braking) to kill the first cone-like enemy for a HIT+1. Move around the giant rock while shooting torpedos to get HIT+ bonuses from the cone enemies and the hidden starfish behind the rock. Once the next 2 starfish come into view, shoot a torpedo at the first one and shoot the ground for 2 HIT+1s from the second one. You should have around 65 hits by this point. Move to the left and kill the big eel-like enemy. Once he's out of the way and you have your HIT+3, move down to get a HIT+1 from the clam ahead. (NOTE: In the Japanese version, there's also a starfish behind the clam which will give you 3 extra points.) Ignore the 2 green-shelled enemies and the clam for now, and position yourself directly in front of the one on the right. As soon as they come next to each other, brake and move down to the floor, then press B rapidly while braking. You should move under the rock behind you (without taking damage) and rack up around 15 HIT+1s from the clam. Now kill the 2 green-shelled enemies by shooting the ground when their shells are open to get 4 HIT+1s (2 HIT+1s each). A starfish comes toward you on the right side of the screen. When you see it coming, shoot the seaweed in front of you to get 2 HIT+1s from it. By this point you should have around 95-100 hits. On the left side, you'll see another clam. Move next to the clam, but be mindful of the giant rock underneath it and stay near the right edge of the rock. Once the clam goes out of your view, brake and press B rapidly to rack up as many as 18 HIT+1s from the clam. (NOTE: In the USA and PAL versions, the approaching starfish will also be killed by the torpedo spamming. In the Japanese version, you will need to shoot him with a torpedo after the spamming, effectively costing you 2 hits.) Kill the giant eel-like enemy ahead, and move to the left edge of the rock next to the clam. Before you hit the rock, brake and press B repeatedly to get around 7 HIT+1s (you can't come as close to this rock as you can the previous one). By this point, you should have around 125 hits (130+ is optimal). (JAPANESE VERSION ONLY: Shoot the cone-like enemy on the right from afar for a HIT+1, then, while braking, shoot the one on the left for another HIT+1.) Move onto the floor of the ocean. Once Slippy's message chimes out, shoot a torpedo next to the cone-like enemy to your right for a HIT+2 (the other +1 comes from the tower next to it). As soon as you shoot, hold the brake until the boost meter empties halfway. Keep shooting that area while holding the brake (until the boost meter runs out) to get as many as 6 points (2 from the cone enemy and 4 from the tower). Now move over to the left side of the screen, and position yourself in front of the seaweed ahead. Once your cursor locks onto an enemy in the distance, keep pressing B rapidly. As soon as you hit the seaweed, hold the brake (and keep mashing B). Once your boost meter runs out and you move forward, move above the ground a bit, then move down again while pressing B to get a HIT+3 and a couple HIT+1s from the cone/tower. Kill the 4 enemies ahead, and check your score. You should have around 165-175 hits. 2 towers ahead. Position yourself a tiny bit to the right of the left tower (but still far enough to the left to touch the square base on the ground when you come close enough to the tower). Move onto the ground right next to the right tower's base, and press B rapidly for around 6-7 HIT+2s. As soon as you come up from "pointing" at the ground, hold the brakes and continue tapping B for around 25 more HIT+1s. If you're far enough to the right, you will even go through the tower's base and get even more HIT+1s. By the time the hit counter stops going up, you should have over 200 hits. Shoot the left tower with a torpedo, and kill the big fish enemy ahead. Move to the right and shoot the ground next to the nearest tower for 6-7 HIT+1s. Immediately afterwards, aim up and to the left to shoot the group of 4 for a HIT+3. Now, position yourself so that you are about to shoot the leftmost corner of the 3rd tower on the right's base. As soon as you come close enough, brake and press B rapidly. It is important to be as far to the left of the base as possible, otherwise an invisible wall will block your torpedos, and you will lose around 25-30 hits (HUGE point loss there). Go through the tower while shooting to rack up more HIT+1s after your brake runs out. After killing the 4 enemies ahead, you should have around 245-255 hits. Shoot a torpedo in front of you to get a HIT+2 from the group of 2 enemies coming from the right ahead. Immediately brake and shoot a torpedo between the 3 enemies coming from the left for a HIT+3 (alternatively, you can just shoot the first group by hitting the large plant for a HIT+2 and then get another HIT+2 by shooting the group of 3, which is a bit easier but costs 1 point). Now, you will see 2 groups of 2 enemies crossing paths. Shoot the first group for a HIT+1, then brake until the boost meter is about 75% full. Immediately repeat this process for the next group. Lock on to the hidden 3rd group behind the giant squid, and repeat the process. This braking rhythm is extremely important, as the giant squid needs to be in the right position for this next trick to work. Go in front of the piece of seaweed right in front of the giant squid, brake, and press B rapidly while braking. You should gain 10 points from this (3 hits from the squid, and 7 HIT+1s). Don't go through the checkpoint yet. Instead, hold down the brakes and try to shoot 2 of the enemies nearest to the checkpoint (the group of 4 on the ground) for 2 easy hits. Now go through the checkpoint. If everything so far has been done right, you should have a checkpoint of around 280-285 hits (sometimes 290+ if everything is done perfectly). Deliberately kill yourself (in the game, not in real life ;)) to restart at the checkpoint (respawning the 2 enemies you killed earlier) to begin the 2nd half of the level.
