HANI NOW AN "ALL-STAR"
Hani Habra has a surprise for us: he has all the Coinless Stars in Super Mario 64! He also made one improvment in both Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 6, to get ahead of my record.

DIMITRIJ DIGS INTO WINFRIED'S VAULT
Winfried Merdes had an old Sector Z improvement for Star Fox 64 that he forgot to send. So Dimitrij Jarowoj sent in the score for me. I still think Winnie has a long way to go on this level before the score is as good as his others!

1080 Snowboarding - Mario Party 3 (NTSC) - Star Fox 64

Super Mario Bros. DX

Players List

RON "ROBBED" OF A 4TH PLACE TIME
Though Ron Klijn is overall the best of the 1080 Snowboarders, one level is his foible: Deadly Fall. He was tied with his nephew Robbie but not anymore-- Robbie is back with a new time. Also Ron wants to use a different e-mail address.

DAVE'S GOT GREED
Dave Phaneuf was feeling greedy today. He wanted the whole Dizzy Dinghies 3 WR to himself. So he did what any greedy guy would do-- get back to playing and take the WR for himself. But don't worry, Dave-- here at N64HS, greed is good!

A "SUPER" SCORE IMPROVEMENT
I've got two new scores for Super Mario Bros. DX today. One is a minor improvement that personally I don't think is that great, while the other is up more than 35,000 from the old score, putting me tantalizingly close to the elusive 7.1 million mark. And if anyone's wondering how I got just high scores on 3-3, 4-3, and 7-3... keep posted. I'll soon reveal my trick.

FUN IN THE SUN
Finally today, Brett Ables has a new top twenty score in Star Fox 64, for Solar.

1080 Snowboarding - Mario Party 3 (NTSC)

Super Mario Bros. DX

Players List

NEW PLAYER MAKES SNOWBOARDERS EVERYWHERE CRY "UNCLE"
There's a new 1080 Snowboarding champion in the house. He's Ron Klijn, the uncle of Robbie Klijn. He takes all but one of the Time Attack WRs to establish himself as the new Time Attack champion. He currently does not have proof because he doesn't have a camera, but insists he's not lying because if he was, his nephew Robbie "for sure would warn me".

NEW WR WAS SMOOTH SAILING FOR DAVE PHANEUF
Matheus Campos isn't intimidating Dave Phaneuf. Dave won't let some kid from Brazil just get away with his WRs, so of course he's going to take them back. He gets the Dizzy Dinghies 2 WR today.

ANDREW HAS SIGHTS ON FIVE MILLION
Andrew Kent is less than a thousand points from having his Super Mario Bros. DX total reach five million. He raised his 7-1 score considerably but still has less than half of my WR. He says he'll have to get the points he needs to pass David Wonn from 8-2, and if he doesn't do it soon, Michael Tymon may hold him back from overall 2nd place.

I'M A MILLIONAIRE... FOR THE FOURTH TIME
Andrew Kent made the observation a while back that I had a million points total for Worlds 3, 5, and 8 in Super Mario Bros. DX, and that I was just a few thousand points away from doing the same in World 7. So today I went and raised my World 7-3 score by another seven thousand, so that I now have world totals of more than a million for half of the game's worlds.

Dimitrij Jarowoj and Kristopher Will continue to throw down the gauntlet in Snowboard Kids, with Dimitrij sending in a couple of new times, while Kristopher beats one of Dimitrij's times..

NATHAN'S MAKING "RACKET"
Nathan Stinson is back on the court with four new WRs for Mario Tennis. He's also trying his hand at Mario Party 3 where he's tied the Cosmic Coaster WR and set a few other decent times.

GOOD "TYMON"...
Michael Tymon has nearly doubled his Super Mario Bros. DX total, endangering Andrew Kent's top three spot! He has used David Wonn's mega-score glitch extensively to add on the extra two million. He improved more than half of his scores.

Today he has new totals for Firing Range and many new times in the top three, while I added his new Completed Heart Containers in the Majora's Mask page (which was actually from yesterday, but he labelled it as 20 stars!)

Remember when I said yesterday that Hani Habra almost beat my old score of 37,300 for World 7-3 in Super Mario Bros. DX? Well, he tried again yesterday... and succeeded. But I didn't get mad, I got even. I've discovered a nice new trick that has allowed me to not only take back the WR easily, but also to make huge improvements in 3-3 and 4-3, two levels I once thought to be maxed out. But I'm keeping my new strategy close to the vest for a while, until everybody gives up on guessing what it is. I also added a few hundred points to my 2-3 WR while I was at it. Maybe within the days to come I'll make proofs of the new scores, just to prove to everybody that it's not a hoax!

In Loving Memory of Barbara Ann Harvey

Aug. 6, 1926 - Feb. 7, 2006

REMEMBERING "MAM-MAW"
I dedicate today's N64HS update to my grandmother, Barbara Ann Harvey, who has passed away today in ICU room number 6068 of the Ochsner medical center in Metairie, Louisiana, due to various failures of the circulatory system, just six months short of her 80th birthday. She was born Barabara Ann Burkhart on August 6, 1926 in Chattanooga, Tennessee but spent all of her adult life here in Gulfport, Mississippi. With husband Johnie Ray Harvey (1920-1981), she had 11 children, two of which died in infancy, and 7 of the other 9 are alive today (two of her daughters, who were my aunts, both died in 2002). She had dozens of grandchildren (of which I am the youngest one) and great-grandchildren who will forever miss her. Much of the family, including me and my dad, would gather at her house on Sundays to eat the great meals that she cooked, and we all got together there for Thanksgiving to have dinner and on Christmas to exchange gifts and have Christmas dinner. These holidays will never again be the same without "Mam-Maw", as we have always called her. Mam-Maw... we miss you!

MY OTHER GRANDMOTHER IS IN TROUBLE NOW... PRAY FOR HER!!!
I received word this morning that my grandmother on my father's side of the family has suffered an aneurysm, which is an exploding blood vessel in the brain. It goes without saying that an aneurysm is often fatal. When we first received the news this morning, we thought that exactly that was going to happen, as we were told that she had less than an hour to live. But she is beating the odds thusfar, and her condition is improving so that she can now do a little bit of talking. She can also move all four of her limbs. She still isn't out of immediate danger yet, so let's pray that she makes a recovery. As with my other grandmother, who is suffering from Alzheimer's and has undergone an emergency colostomy surgery, we doubt she will ever be completely back to her old self. For the time being, we just want her to make it through tonight. But it's ultimately up to God to decide whether to take her or leave her...

BRANCATO GOES FOR THE GOLD

WOW, SOME SCORES!
To all of you who were wondering why we haven't done an update in three days: it's because of you. You haven't had any scores to send us, and thus no pages to update. But today there are new scores from David Schiering, Steven Weerdenburg, and Hani Habra. David made his Star Fox 64 debut with two scores, Steven made small progress in Super Mario 64, and Hani made his Super Mario Bros. DX debut, and also beat Paul Tanney's score in Block Star in Mario Party 6. But when it comes to awarding PODs, it's all about the Nintendo 64. This rules Hani out of today's POD, unfortunately, leaving David and Steven, neither of whom did anything spectacular, but the POD has to go to someone if there are new scores, and I'm giving it to Dave just because he tried something new.

PRAY FOR GRANNY
Some of you know about this, but others probably do not. Mark Johnson isn't the only player at N64HS whose grandmother is in danger-- my own grandmother (on my mother's side) is currently fighting for her life in St. Patrick's Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana. On top of her Alzheimer's, there have been strange lumps detected in her pancreas which could possibly be cancerous, and she is having trouble in other parts of her digestive system too. She underwent a colostomy surgery today. Because it doesn't look so good for her, I want everyone here to pray for her health, for her to make a recovery. I can't call it a full recovery, given her age and physical condition, but I really want to see her back on her feet and able to wring a few more years out of life. All my life I have only had two grandparents, both grandmothers (my grandfathers were both already dead when I was born) and I'd hate to be left with only one. Life without "Mam-Maw", as I have called her my whole life, will be hard for all of us, and not very easy to think about either.

I will be going to Lake Charles, and so is the rest of our family, tomorrow, which is a five-hour drive; depending on how much time I have left when I get back home in the evening, I may or may not do a site update tomorrow.

After Mike Long submitted a Solar score of 329, I investigated it by e-mailing Winfried Merdes and Dimitrij Jarowoj (who has one new score for this game today), and both of them said that Mike used a very cheap trick to get 69 points more than the WR, which Winfired & Dimitrij have already refused to use due to the trick's cheapness. It involves scoring Hit+1's during the fight with the boss. So I did the smart thing: ban the use of tricks done during boss fights which allow for infinite points. (In Macbeth there is a limit, so prolonging the boss fight is still allowed there) Think of the way this could be abused if it was allowed-- players could finish Solar with 999 points (511 for players stuck with PAL) and go on to make a Total Hits of 3,000 or more. Simon Archambault, the Canadian best known for his Mario Tennis and Zelda records, is fast becoming a superstar in Mario Party 4. Today he sets two new WRs in Jigsaw Jitters, got a second place on the third puzzle, and made a pretty good Barrel Baron record.

WINFRIED MERDES BACK WITH NEW TOTAL HITS
Winfried, the close friend of Dimitrij Jarowoj, returns with a new Total Hits score, which is just shy of 2400. He also beat my Katina score (finally) and is getting better on Area 6, while Caio Seidel De Crignis is still struggling towards a score of 300 on Corneria.

PINK PUFFBALLS
Kyle Sinclair has new BTP times for his favorite pink puffballs, Kirby and Jigglypuff, who look as if they could be related. The new Kirby time is quite impressive.

TIME TO GIVE THE POD TO SOMEONE ELSE...
Victor Lima does good enough to become the second player to win a POD in 2006 by tying two Single Pok\'e9mon WRs in Pok\'e9mon Snap and improving a level score there as well as a Super Mario 64 time.

KYLE ISN'T FINISHED YET...
Kyle Sinclair improved Kirby and Link, who seem to be his two favorite characters. He gains a position with one of the times!

HANI'S CHOMPING AT THE BIT
Hani Habra sends his first Decathlon score for Mario Party 5, for Chomp Romp. His time puts mine in last place, but when I get around to it I'll trash my old time, because I found a video ;-)

KYLE TAKES THIRD
As we've all expected, Kyle Sinclair has wrested third place overall from Andrew Kent in Board the Platforms. He improved Kirby to push his total low enough. Now he says he needs to work more on Pikachu.

LUCKIER LUKE
Luke Schmidt is on summer vacation in Australia, so he played some Banjo-Kazooie and he pushed his Spiral Mountain WR still lower!.

HAPPY HANI
The name Hani, according to Answers.com, means Happy in Arabic. I'm sure Hani is feeling pretty happy today because he took the Block Star WR in Mario Party 6!

CAIO SOON TO JOIN THE "CORNERIAN ELITE"
Caio Seidel De Crignis only has two more points to go before he joins the elite group of players with scores of 300 and up on Corneria. Caio actually has already broken 300 in the emulator while doing practice runs.

BOSTONIAN WINS PLAYER OF THE YEAR BY BIGGEST MARGIN EVER
Everyone knew this was going to happen long before this moment. 16-year-old Mark Johnson from Boston, Massachusetts made a very strong debut in Star Fox 64 and quickly became the world champion, and in this quarter has pulled even further ahead of his competition, earning himself his second consecutive Player of the Quarter Award on top of his Player of the Year award. It wasn't just Star Fox 64 that made Mark Johnson 2005's best gamer by far, though. Mark also became the best Super Smash Bros. 1-Player score by a huge margin, and even took a Nai WR in Break the Targets that Isai Alvarado has not beaten to this day. In the Mario sports games-- Tennis and Golf-- Mark showed his mastery with all the Piranha Challenge WRs in Tennis and a Stroke Play WR Tie in Golf. And to top it all off, he took all the Coinless Stars in Super Mario 64.

Congratulations Mark! You have received the biggest honor N64HS has to offer! And you've also set a record by winning two POQs in a row, the second largest award at N64HS!

KYLE TAKES THE FIRST POD OF 2006 WITH AN OH-SO-CLOSE PLATFORMS TOTAL
Kyle Sinclair is riding on Andrew Kent's rear bumper in the Super Smash Bros. Board the Platforms race. With continued improvement on his Link time, there's only 0"04 left to go before Kyle overtakes Andrew.

HABRAS RING IN THE NEW YEAR BY PARTYING
I partied a little myself last night, at the Isle of Capri Casino in Biloxi, where I parted with about 55 of my precious dollars. I'm not going back there any time soon X0 Now, let's get back to the point. Hani & Reema Habra have been playing the even-numbered Mario Party games, with Hani getting closer to the Block Star WR on Mario Party 6 and submitting a great new Mario Party 4 time as well as improvements in Mario Party 2. Reema just has one new time, but it's a good one. In Mario Party 4 she put together the 30-piece Jigsaw Jitters puzzle in just over a minute, and I'm sure she can get her time under a minute if she keeps practicing.

CAIO HAS HIS EYE ON 300
The other new score to start the new year is for Star Fox 64, where Caio Seidel De Crignis is aiming for a score of 300 on Corneria. He has already done it in the emulator, using saved games, and is getting very close to 300 on the N64.
