Star Fox 64 - Super Smash Bros. (Platforms)

KYLE ON COURSE TO PASS ANDREW
Kyle Sinclair wins the final POD of 2005 with new Board the Platforms times that put him within a fifth of a second of Andrew Kent's total time. Because Andrew didn't send his total the last time, Kyle had to compute it, so Andrew still has the better total... for now. Will the first update of 2006 see Andrew Kent's BtP total pushed down yet another position?

Also today Kenneth Cheung has a very small Star Fox 64 improvement.

BIG UPDATE TO COME TOMORROW
Tomorrow, is, of course, New Year's Day 2006, so there will be many Awards handed out. A POD, which will be the first for 2006, if there's anyone playing; the last POW of 2005; the December 2005 POM; the POQ (Player of the Quarter) for October 1-December 31... and finally the biggest Award of all, the POY (Player of the Year). You have probably already guessed half (or more) of the winners of these Awards, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out if you're right or not!

ADAM ROSE COMES BACK LIKE A BOOMERANG
The Australian rising star on the Board the Platforms page rises even more today with two improved times to push his total into 12th place, past Paul Kang.

"LONG" TIME NO SEE
Mike Long's back today playing Star Fox 64, and he has three new scores. None of them as amazing as his Katina score, of course. In fact he is still struggling to make 400 points on Meteo.

HANI MUSTERED
As always, Hani Habra has new times in the Mario Party series. He's entered another top ten in Drivers Ed and is approaching Kyle Sinclair's Block Star WR and also makes top three in Full Tilt.

COSMIC JUSTICE
Today we have a new player with a rather interesting name: Cosmo Wright. His new times are for Beetle Adventure Racing and he has a very interesting point to make. He says that Phil Hughes achieved all his times in two-player mode, which allows you to have handicaps and to drive the cars faster. We both feel that this is below the belt, so Cosmo and I have agreed to change the rules so that only 1-player times are allowed and Phil Hughes's times have been taken down until he can make new times in 1-player mode. I can see why Phil raced in 2-player mode, since it wasn't expressly prohibited by the rules, but I think he should have at least asked before sending his times since this is such an incredibly cheap way to race.

His other score is for Block Star where he has broken the 1,000 point barrier.

SEASON'S GREETINGS FROM N64HS
In the United States this year there has been a movement to replace "Merry Christmas" with "Happy Holidays" to include non-Christians who don't celebrate Christmas. But those of us who are Christian, such as myself, believe that Christ should not be taken out of Christmas, because he is the "Reason for the Season". I know there are probably many of you out there that are Jewish, Muslim, etc. and do not celebrate Christmas, and I respect that. I'd still like to wish a Merry Christmas to those of you who do celebrate it, but to those of you who don't: HAPPY HOLIDAYS! ;-)

I'm doing this one day early for two reasons: (1) I will not be updating tomorrow, which those of you who have been with us for a while already know now, and (2) by the time you read this it will probably already be December 25th anyway.

THIS DESERVES A LIFETIME SUPPLY OF SUSHI!
I don't know if Jorge Maricato actually likes sushi (I don't) but if he does, he should get a lifetime supply of it today! He made an incredible new score for the Sushi-Go-Round in Pok\'e9mon Stadium and also tied the Magikarp's Splash WR. And this ain't no fish story!

OTHER PEOPLE WHO WILL BE GETTING A HOT CHRISTMAS
We know that Victor Lima celebrates Christmas because he wished me a Merry Christmas in his e-mail to me today. Brazil is predominantly Catholic. But anyway, Vic now has all the Coinless Stars in Super Mario 64, while his cousin Marcelo took back the Stardust Battle Nai WR in Mario Party 3 and made a good Water Whirled time while he was at it!

AND ONE GUY WHO WILL BE GETTING A WHITE CHRISTMAS... IF HE CELEBRATES IT
We're not so sure if Hani Habra and his family celebrates Christmas. People in Michigan that do celebrate it, though, are in for a treat because it's usually a White Christmas, and I believe this year's Christmas is supposed to be white there as well. Last year's Christmas was white for us, for the first time in my lifetime. It was even white all the way into southern Texas. Today Hani improved his Drivers Ed course 3 time, picking up yet another position, and sent in some new records for Mario Pary 5 and 6.

By the way, the game show Deal Or No Deal, which is airing in the United States this week, originated in Australia.

HANI HABRA REACHES FOR THE STARS
Hani Habra makes a new Nai WR in Mario Party 3 today with his new Stardust Battle time. He doesn't say whether or not this is at or near the lowest time possible, but it beats the old WR by two seconds! Hani's sister, Reema, is welcomed to the Players List with her first N64 score, for Mario's Puzzle Party Pro. We shall see if she can join the ranks of Kristi Casey, Athena Tsadili, and... uh, Michelle Kent, who turns 18 today... as one of the great female N64 players.

"BEAM ME UP, ROB..."

KYLE AHEAD OF LUIZ NOW IN PLATFORMS
The Total Time that Kyle Sinclair sent me for Board the Platforms yesterday is incorrect. He calculated it incorrectly. His total actually puts him in 4th place ahead of Luiz Roberto, Jr. If your total is an aggregate (made from multiple saved games) always add it in a calcuator and figure one minute for every 60 seconds in the total. 60 seconds equals 1 minute, 120 seconds is 2 minutes, 180 seconds is 3 minutes, 240 seconds is 4 minutes and 300 seconds is 5 minutes. Subtract the highest multiple of 60 that is less than your total number of seconds and you will have the remaining number of seconds for your total time. You shouldn't make a mistake.

BOB-OMB X-ING MAXED BY NEW SWEDISH PLAYER
The new player today isn't an N64 player (yet) so we can't add him to the Players List or give him today's POD, unfortunately. But he is the best player today nonetheless. Thomas Gunnarsson (it's easier just to call him Tom, I suppose) sends in two amazing records for Mario Party 4. He lasts for ten minutes on Bob-Omb X-Ing, which is as far as the timer will go. And on Mushroom Medic, he's the first PAL player to save a hundred patients (actually 99). Maybe Sweden should add Dr. Tom to its bomb squad!

JON BARBER IS BACK... SORT OF
He doesn't have any new scores or times but Wisconsinite Jon Barber, one of the greatest Zelda, Mario Kart, and Goldeneye players ever, has sent new information for his Players List profile. Did you know he even had a new site?

SMALL IMPROVEMENTS BY THREE PLAYERS
There were no big improvements today, or any new WRs. Hani Habra made a small cut on his Bobsled Run time in Mario Party 2, Steven Weerdenburg has new coins in Super Mario 64 under both the normal rules and the Capless, Cannonless Rules, while Caio Seidel De Crignis makes an eight-point improvement in Area 6. It's techincally a WR because of the "511 rule" but it is still 100 points from the true WR. Caio actually made a slightly higher score playing the game on his emulator, but we won't accept emulated scores (though using an emulator is perfectly acceptable for practice runs, and a good idea in fact).

With lots of trial and error I have determined the formula for how far the Mecha Fly Guy will fly based on the number of rotations of the control stick. The formula for NTSC is t = 2/5 + 2/15r, with t being the flight time in seconds and r being the number of rotations. If you try this formula on any of the NTSC records you'll always be within 0"1 of the actual time. I am not sure what the exact PAL formula is.

In Star Fox 64, he takes two pivotal WRs: Venom, and Total Hits. Additionally he takes the 2nd highest score for Area 6, bringing Steven Zwartjes's score there from first to third within a week.

And if that wasn't enough... Mark Johnson has the first score for Yoshi's Story! It's not a good score, being his first, but Mark promises to play this game some more and get bigger and better scores. Getting 3rd place overall should be a cakewalk for this guy!

The new generation of Star Fox 64 players has fulfilled its goal: to take all the old WRs held by the likes of Andrew Chan and Steven Zwartjes. Today, Dimitrij Jarowoj takes the last remaining WR from before 2000, on Area 6. Steven Zwartjes, who was beaten by eight points, still has a tied WR for having more than 510 hits. But nonetheless, Dimitrij Jarowoj now has the highest score on the Star Fox 64 page for a single mission.

"THANKS" FOR YOUR PATIENCE
Whether it's stuffing my stomach with ham, turkey, and dressing, decorating the Christmas tree, or watching television specials, Thanksgiving will leave me no time to do updates tomorrow. But if there are new scores both tomorrow and Friday, I'll give two PODs on Friday's update!

THE HURRICANE SEASON OF ALL HURRICANE SEASONS
Those of you who haven't been living in a cave for the past four months should know that the 2005 North Atlantic hurricane season has been the hurricane season from hell. It just won't quit. This year will forever be remembered for just one storm: Katrina. Just before doing this update, I received word that Tropical Storm Delta has been designated near the Azores. It's the 25th named tropical storm in the North Atlantic this year. And the season isn't quite over yet... we could have an Epsilon! Prior to this year, the most tropical storms ever recorded in one year was 21, back in 1933! What will the 2006 hurricane season have in store for us?

BUSY ONCE MORE
Today there are new scores from four players, a major improvement over yesterday, when there was nothing new. The top story is Winfried Merdes, who has made a considerable improvement onto his Total Hits record in Star Fox 64. A look at the proof pic reveals that he set the score on PAL with the 511 limitation, so his run is actually better than mine. My guess is that he can attain 2,400 Total Hits on the NTSC version.

KYLE'S CUT
After the removal of Isai Alvarado from the Break the Targets and Board the Platforms charts for Super Smash Bros., Kyle has gained at least one first-place time in Board the Platforms (though I still have not yet gone and changed all the numbers). He improved that time by 0"05 today, but if Isai ever decides to come back to N64HS he will have the Mario WR once more.

Other Super Smash Bros. news: Mark Johnson has taken a new video of his controversial Fox WR for Break the Targets. You'll find it on the brand-spanking-new Message Board!

MIKE POLLACK HITS THE LINKS
New Yorker Mike Pollack sent in a Speed Golf time for Mario Golf, just to make sure there'd be at least something to update today. He obviously didn't know about Winfried, Kyle, and...

...JULIAN.
Julian Revermann has become the second German to tie the Mario Speedwagons PAL WR in Mario Party 4. It is surprising that the first German to get this tied WR was a girl!

WHY A NEGATIVE NUMBER OF NEW SCORES?
If you've been keeping up with all out updates, you may have heard that Isai Alvarado wanted his times taken off the N64HS charts. He has constantly been asking me to do this so it is clear that this is what he wants. He states that he does not want to be with us because I am accepting times from Mark Johnson and Sean Kaczmarek without demanding that they send a video of their actual performance, rather than just a picture, which Isai insists that Mark has faked. But I don't believe that it is necessary to go this far and neither do Sean or Mark. This decision has made Isai ashamed to be part of N64HS. However, he does say that in the future, he may make me new videos of his times and send them to me, and want his times to be put back up on the charts. So as a result, I have kept the positions the way they are on the charts (no 1st place, though Andrew can treat 2nd as 1st when he does the Rankings) and I also have a Word document with Isai's times on it. My decision to remove Isai from the charts today should please both him and his opponents.

Please go to the General Discussion board and read my first post.

SCARING UP A NEW SCORE FOR SMBDX
With my newest score for Super Mario Bros. DX, I think it's possible to get a total of 7 million points if you wring out as many points as possible out of every stage! Especially the ones where you can perform the Koopa shell glitch. For example, 8-2, where I improved my score by 80,000 points, putting my total only 150,000 away from 7 million! A SHAKE-UP DOWN UNDER

ISAI COULD BE QUTTING
Isai Alvarado, the champion of the Break the Targets and Board the Platforms pages, says he wants to withdraw from the N64HS competition. He says that we are not serious enough about demanding valid proof of Nai WR times from our players (see below) and that he does not want to be part of it. Before I go and delete his times, I want him to think it through. This is, after all, far from the only time I've ever been asked to take down a player's N64HS records.

MARK MAKES ANOTHER PROOF OF HIS FOX TIME, BUT IS IS ENOUGH?
Mark Johnson has made a new proof of his controversial Fox time for Break the Targets. You can find it here. Isai Alvarado points out that in the corner of your screen you can see an area of white that appears to be a computer monitor. Mark insists that his TV is white and says he will make a new video proof soon, in which we will be able to see Fox animating on the player select screen. Mark cannot make a video of the actual performance of his time, as he did it years ago and had no tape recording the run at the time. So anyone who wants true proof of this time will have to settle for a video of the time on the player select screen.

THE CONTROVERSY SURROUNDING MARK JOHNSON
I've received a complaint from Isai Alvarado, the Break the Targets champion, that the Fox WR from Mark Johnson may be a lie, and that the proof photo could have been faked. He has made a topic about this on the GameFAQs message boards, and several users there also believe that the photo was edited. If you look at it you'll see that the 0s at the beginning of the time are bolder than the 9s that follow. I'm not going to just go on and say right now that this is a fake photo, but Mark does need to take another picture and see if it comes out better than this one did, perhaps from a different angle. It could only be an optical illusion. Mark insists that his time and his photo are real and that he could not perform the time again because he has since forgotten the strategy (he achieved the time two years ago), thus no video will be made. But perhaps if Isai will tell Mark his strategy, Mark might be able to achieve a time of 9"93 once more, or something close to it, and release a video of it. But if Isai can indeed prove that Mark's time is fake, and Mark cannot prove that his time is real, it appears as if my only option will be to disqualify him from N64HS, because if he fakes a picture of one time I will have to assume he faked all his other proofs, including those for Star Fox 64 and Super Smash Bros. 1-Player.

You may remember the ongoing battle between Bruno de Vasconcelos Teixeira and Phil Renshaw during the Quake II page's infancy. And today, after nearly two years, Phil has returned with four new times!! Three are new, untied Nai WRs! And the fourth is only one second short of the WR.

DIMITRIJ REACHES HIS OTHER GOAL
Dimitrij had been working towards two Nai WRs in Star Fox 64. Two days ago he made one of his goal WRs, Venom. Today he makes his other one, Meteo, where it is far more difficult to make 511 points than on Area 6. Congratulations Dimitrij.

MARK TAKES ON ISAI
Just when you thought it couldn't get any more surprising, Mark Johnson pulls a very impressive Nai WR in Break the Targets! He's ahead by just 0"02 and I wouldn't be surprised if Isai, who also has new times today, got the WR back tomorrow, but Mark can still say that he held the WR for just one day!

DAVID MAKES A WR IN MAJORA'S MASK
David Schiering improved on his Gorman Track time from yesterday, getting it ahead of Alex Penev's time! So he has his first WR in Zelda!

OTHER STUFF...
Luke Schmidt has a new Banjo-Kazooie time, Kenneth Cheung improved Solar and Corneria in Star Fox 64, Kyle has a new Break the Targets time, Tobias Braner tied the Snow Whirled WR in Mario Party 6, and Michael Tymon pushed his Super Mario Bros. IT WAS FUN WHILE IT LASTED
For more than eight months, I held an untied Nai WR in Star Fox 64 with a score of 330 points on Venom, but Dimitrij Jarowoj has ended my Venom reign and beaten my score by 15 points. Dimitrij loses a WR himself, to Mark Johnson, on Sector Y; Mark also improved Meteo, and Winfried Merdes is over 300 on Bolse now. I've received proof of these scores but I'm running out of time so I'll put them up tomorrow.

The amazing Mark Johnson has shown ability in yet another game. Today, he tied a WR score in Mario Golf, but he doesn't have the WR because he doesn't have a time.

But Mark still gets an award today-- last week's POW for his Super Smash Bros. and Mario Tennis scores.

1080 Snowboarding - Star Fox 64 - Super Smash Bros. (1-Player, Targets) - Top Gear Rally

MIGHTY MARK
Mark Johnson is turning out to be quite an amazing player with multiple talents. Today's Super Smash Bros. scores make it crystal clear. The same guy who holds half of the Star Fox 64 WRs (though he lost one today, but we'll get to that later) has made more WRs in Super Smash Bros. today, including the new highest score on the page... more than 2.2 million points with Luigi! And in Mario Tennis, he has perfect scores for all the characters in Piranha Challenge! Though I haven't put up proof for the SSB scores, Mark has sent it, but the file sizes are too large. I'm only allowed 15 MB, and I've used 87% of it, and if I want more space I have to buy it-- something I'm not about to do.

DIMITRIJ JAROWOJ STRIKES BACK
It's time for Dimitrij Jarowoj to deal some blows of his own in retaliation. He took Mark Johnson's Solar WR in Star Fox 64, has finally broken 500 on Meteo, and worked on Venom to tie 2nd place, making my WR there all the more vulnerable.

SWEDE LOSES HIS TGR WRS
Mike Pollack has taken the Nai WRs that Swedish player Tobias Johansson set on the Coastline track in Top Gear Rally. Nicholas St-Louis joins Tobias on the Desert track-- he lost his Lap WR to Mike there.

ASSAULT ON ANDREW KENT
Kyle Sinclair's nose is still on the grindstone in Super Smash Bros.: Break the Targets. Today he shaved a good bit off his Total with a Ness improvement, and his total is barely over 2'28", but tomorrow he will have some new times that put him even closer to passing our official Rankings page updator!

NUMBER FOUR
Both Kyle Sinclair and our new player Tom Reynolds have taken fourth place in the totals in their respective games. In Super Smash Bros. (That's not all the damage he's done-- he's also deprived Greece's Athena Tsadili of all but one of her top fives, leaving that whole country with just one point left on N64HS's Rankings tables)

THREE PLAYERS, THREE COUNTRIES, THREE GAMES
Other new records today at N64HS include some new Super Mario 64 records from Steven Weerdenburg, from Canada; a new Top Gear Rally WR from American Mike Pollack; and in Germany, Tobias Braner has tied the Cloud Climb WR in Mario Party Advance.

MARK'S NEXT HIDDEN TALENT
Mark Johnson proves himself to be truly multi-talented with new Super Smash Bros. 1-Player scores. He got two Nai WRs! Let's say that all together now: Two Nai WRs! His total score is just shy of 20 mil! He'll have proof of this tomorrow. "Mark" his words. On top of all this, he has a new WR in Star Fox 64 today!

POWDER POWER
We have new scores today in both 1080 Snowboarding and Snowboard Kids! British player Tom Reynolds (the word "British" is actually a misnomer in this case because Tom is from Northern Ireland, which isn't part of Great Britain, but it's still part of the United Kingdom) finally submits the 1080 Snowboarding Trick Attack scores that I've been telling you about. He has one top three time and is just shy of Andrew Kent's total score, though his records are many years old, which means we might not get any new scores from him. In Snowboard Kids, David Schiering, who also has new WRs in Blast Corps, has new times.

ANDREW'S BEEN BUSY TOO
For those of you who just "Kent" wait for another update of the Ocarina of Time Rankings, Andrew has updated that page today, and he's pulling away from Kyle Sinclair's Break the Targets total.

WE'RE NOT FINISHED YET
Today's been a bit more active than normal. Mike Pollack's got some new Top Gear Rally times, which include new WRs, and David Schiering has finally released proof of his Blast Corps times! There is also a new link for Dimitrij Jarowoj's Star Fox 64 scores on that page. His improvement was greater as well, plus he improved Sector Y by one point (it won't be long before he passes my score there). For this, Winnie takes today's POD.

I ASSUME HE'S NOT KID-DING
Kristopher Will has taken another WR in Snowboard Kids, and finally has an Animal Land score, which is in 2nd place. You know he "Will" get the WR there before long.

KYLE PUSHES TOWARDS 2'29", MIKE WORKS ON TGR

BAMA BOY DEBUTS IN 2ND PLACE IN BREAK THE TARGETS
Andy Eadon, best known by his nickname "Moogle", is the first player at N64HS who was "one of the chosen few to be born in Alabam", goes the Hank Williams, Jr. song. Moogle sent all his times for Break the Targets and Board the Platforms, and his Targets total is 2nd, while his Platforms total is 6th! This gives the likes of Kyle Sinclair and Bruno de Vasconcelos Teixeira another player to compete with!

DIMITRIJ TAKES TWO
Two Nai WRs, that is. He's got Solar and Aquas today, even though Mark Johnson also improved Solar and passed Winfried Merdes. For that, Mark does stay in 2nd place. But Andrew Kent's new update of the Star Fox 64 Rankings shows that Mark is still the new champion!

EMILE & MARK DOMINATE THE AWARDS
First off I'd like to tell you about last night. It was, as you know, my 21st birthday, and 21 is the legal drinking age in the United States. So you can guess what I did. I had a Screwdriver, a Tom Collins, a Vodka Collins, a 7-7, and a Long Island Iced Tea. That last one really got me ruined. I'm not going to go into the gory details but my stomach didn't take it well at all the next morning, and my throat is still hurting. Please take my advice: Do NOT try to see how much you can drink in one night. It's not a very safe practice at all. It can't be good on your esophagus or your stomach.

The awards were pretty easy to decide. Emile easily makes this POM, as he got over half of the PODs! He worked especially hard in the last week and it paid off, making him POW as well. Today he has new records in Perfect Dark and Mario Tennis. Mark Johnson winning the POQ is a no-brainer, as he was the only guy active throughout the quarter, making the POM in August, and achieving incredible results in Star Fox 64, which started a big competition between himself, Dimitrij Jarowoj, and Winfried Merdes! And let's not forget, he set the new Total Hits record that will be very tough for Phil Hughes to beat on his PAL system!

AUSSIE CREW IS BACK
Andrew and Michelle Kent and Adam Rose have new records in the three Ss: Star Fox 64, Super Smash Bros., and Super Mario 64. Michelle just improved her 1P total in Super Smash Bros., Adam worked on Break the Targets, and Andrew became the fourth player to reach 100 on Fortuna in Star Fox 64, with various other improvements.

THE STAR FOX SHUFFLE
In Star Fox 64, a couple of WRs changed hands. Though Andrew Kent didn't make any new ones today, Mark Johnson did, earning him a POD and getting the first score of 460. And Dimitrij Jarowoj took the Aquas WR.

DAVID IS STILL TRYING
David Schiering, whom we can expect to be working harder this month, has improved the usual times in Blast Corps.

OTHER THINGS
There's a new player in Super Mario 64, Julian Revermann improved a Mario Party record, and Bruno de Vasconcelos Teixeira (try saying that five times fast) worked on Break the Targets.
